We Are Women Owned Virtual Pop-Up
The mission of We Are Women Owned is to create opportunities for women-owned businesses to gain visibility, and to be the go-to platform to shop, discover & support women-owned.
And right now, more than ever, it’s imperative that we raise the voices of Black-owned businesses and encourage our community to vote with their dollars.
Women-owned businesses, and particularly WOC businesses already have less access to Venture Capital funding or the ability to get approved for a bank loan.
In addition to that, COVID-19 has disproportionately affected the Black community in the U.S. from the number of confirmed cases, to the number of deaths to the number of businesses being forced to close.
In the U.S., Black Americans:
-represent 13.4% of the population and 30% of all confirmed cases
-are dying of COVID-19 at three times the rate of white people
-account for 40% of the small business forced to close as a result of the pandemic due to the long-standing issue of lack of access to capital and financial support confirming fears that the pandemic will deepen inequality in the business world
In addition to the negative economic effect on Black-owned businesses, the ongoing systemic racism, past and recent incidents of police brutality, and the current protests make it clear now, more than ever, that we must do our part to support the Black women-owned small businesses in our community.
For the month of June, we’re spotlighting Black women-owned small businesses in an effort to raise brand awareness, encourage buyers to redirect their economic resources, and hopefully make a dent in affecting the long-term economic change we so desperately need.
